Dhan Bahadur Chaudhary
Bipin Joshi returned a explosive device from Hamas attackers before being captured in the attack on Israel two years ago, says the other Nepalese student he saved.
"My survival would not have survived if both grenades had exploded. He showed bravery and hurled the grenade away," Dhan Bahadur Chaudhary disclosed to media outlets.
The survivor was commenting after the defense forces confirmed his friend's body as being one of four deceased hostages handed back by Hamas under the Gaza ceasefire accord.
The young student was twenty-three and employed on a agricultural community when he was seized by Hamas into captivity along with 250 others on 7 October 2023. It remains unknown the circumstances of he died.
His family and friends prayed right up to the negotiation cutoff that he might be among surviving hostages returned on the specified date, but he wasn't, and a subsequent day their worst fears were verified.
Assault Details
Bipin, his friend and 15 other Nepalese agriculture students had been in Israel for just over a short period when Kibbutz Alumim was assaulted.
"We knew that there may be a war in Israel. But we had no idea that there could be any physical assault of that scale," the survivor said. "We believed that there might be missile attacks and we would be safe if we remained below ground, in the bunkers."
For the students who'd been invited under the Israeli government's "educational initiative" it was a great opportunity to improve circumstances for themselves and their loved ones in Nepal.
Dhan Bahadur attributes his survival to Bipin's heroic actions.
"At the time of attack, multiple explosives were launched near the shelters. He [Bipin] picked up one and threw it away; one exploded inside. Due to that explosion, I and four others were wounded," he recalls.
"Bipin was unharmed at that moment. If the two grenades had exploded, I would not have been talking with you like this."
Ten of the Nepalese students were killed in the assault. Their companion was the only one captured.
"The friends saw each other for the final occasion when Bipin and others were being shifted to another shelter," Dhan Bahadur says. "Because, after the wounding, I and remained stayed in the initial shelter. Later came to know that there were two attacks in the shelter where Bipin took refuge and was was held captive from that location."

Remembering Bipin
The survivor states he experiences deeply saddened after learning about his colleague's passing. Dhan Bahadur and Bipin were classmates in their educational institution in Tikapur, Nepal.
"We made all possible attempts from our sides to ensure his release. We attempted all we could. But yesterday, we had to confront such devastating information. The entire nation is in mourning. Personally cannot comprehend how to express. I have no words to describe my sadness."
Dhan Bahadur says his friend and fellow colleagues had the identical aspiration of making modest earnings and starting their own enterprise after returning from the educational opportunity in Israel.
"Bipin enjoyed playing football and sports. We would converse for hours about our goals and dreams. He wanted to achieve his physique in good shape and to buy a new device. We even recorded a musical piece about companionship with a device. Bipin also talked about showcasing himself in a music video."

Recent Developments
On 14 October, the defense authorities said they suspected Bipin Joshi was "killed in captivity during the initial period of the conflict". There's no way of independently verifying that.
But should this be the case, Dhan Bahadur commented, the international community should question Hamas about why it happened.
The survivor mentioned he had lacked any assistance from national authorities following his wounding but hoped the host nation would help Bipin's relatives.
Bipin's immediate family members have not released any comment so far.
Video from 7 October showed him walking inside al-Shifa hospital in the urban area. His relatives obtained no signs of survival for a year, until the authorities released a recording of him in detention around November 2023.
Relatives described the material as "evidence of life" just hours before the ceasefire deal was agreed, and were praying for a miracle.
Currently in his hometown of Bhimdutta municipality the student's loved ones are grieving after receiving news of his passing.

Family Response
The student's mother and sister had traveled to the United States to advocate for the freedom of hostages, the student's cousin family member told media.
The relative says the household has no words to explain the grief. "Bipin's mother and sister are returning from US on Thursday. The father is not in the condition to express the suffering in words."
At the same time it's unclear when the student's body will be repatriated to his family.
Israel is making all necessary arrangements to return his body to Nepal, as it completed for the remaining individuals who died, the country's government department said.
"We are all stunned by the news of Bipin Joshi's death. In this period of sorrow [we] offer our {deep|pro
