Jair Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities concluded he posed a definite escape threat while under domestic detention.

The ex-president was sentenced of plotting a military coup in the ninth month and sentenced more than over two decades in incarceration, but he remained under home detention pending appeals.

High Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a precautionary step after fresh information were revealed.

This included attempting to break his tracking device and a invitation to a demonstration that could enable a potential flight.

Legal Document Reveals Flight Fears

In a filing authorising the custody, Justice Moraes said intelligence from the centre monitoring Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the former leader's aim to disable the electronic ankle bracelet to guarantee victory in his getaway".

Background on Conviction
