One extended cruise around the Land Down Under was terminated in the wake of the tragic passing of an senior lady who was stranded by the vessel on a distant island.

The passenger had been trekking on the remote island with shipmates from the Coral Adventurer, but parted ways from the group for a pause. The ship left without her and returned later that day after the crew realised the woman was unaccounted for.

An extensive rescue mission found her body the next day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the incident, in coordination with investigators and the official investigator.

Chief Executive of the shipping company said that guests and staff on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the continuation of the cruise had been called off due to the "tragic passing and prior engine troubles".

Via official communication, he added that passengers would be provided a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to organize the homeward trips of the travelers via private aircraft".

Officials also issued an updated announcement, and said they had "delivered a directive to the Commander" banning any additional guests from boarding the vessel.

The representative said that they would inspect the vessel in Cairns upon its return.

Timeline of Incidents

The vessel initially left Cairns on the 24th of October, and was merely two days into the voyage at the moment of the senior passenger's passing. The tropical location was the first stop on the voyage.

Passengers on the vessel - who usually pay large sums of dollars to take part in the cruise - were transported there for a daily excursion with the option of hiking or underwater exploration.

Relatives Reaction

The child of the deceased woman said that her relatives was "surprised and distressed that the ship left the island after an scheduled tour without my mum".

In her statement, she portrayed her parent as an "active elderly person" who was a participant of a walking organization.

"According to scant facts we have been informed, it looks that there was a lapse of attention and common sense," she mentioned.

She further stated that she wished the examination would be able to determine what "the organization should have performed that might have preserved Mum's existence".

"Based on information from the police that it was a exceptionally warm afternoon, and mother took sick on the mountain ascent," she revealed.

The vessel caters for up to one hundred twenty passengers with 46 staff, according to official data. It was purpose-built to access isolated regions of Australia's coastline and is outfitted with "auxiliary vessels" - minor craft used to take individuals on land visits.

Occurrences such as this are infrequent, and liners have procedures to track which individuals are getting on or leaving, according to travel authorities.

"Sneaking ashore or [back] aboard really isn't an option," an authority stated.

Shipping companies consider these procedures with great importance and have "advanced technology in place to avoid such occurrences from taking place," the specialist added.

"This is most likely a surprising - and unfortunate - single occurrence."
