It's difficult for the Australian squad to set fresh records.

The top summits have long been mastered.

This is the squad that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, plus another six T20 titles, and once went nearly four years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, targeted by the record chasers, are all that remain for a side that has won it all.

That it took as late as Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase over 300, regaining their record for the highest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, in truth, a compliment to the bowlers that have worn canary yellow over the past 50 years.

It's challenging for their hitters to maintain a record if not provided the chance.

Ultimately, the result of Australia conceding 330 was captain Alyssa Healy receiving an opportunity to deliver her newest gem.

Then best known as the teenage relative of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after Australia couldn't capture either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups conducted earlier and has experienced everything through 15 successful years since.

A T20 World Cup win arrived three months after her debut and seven world titles have come from 10 efforts across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India briefly halted the run of success.

That loss "motivated us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy stated recently.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the championship match and was declared player of the series. She guaranteed her country would not fall short again.

If this newest brilliant performance surpassed that earlier display remains open for discussion.

Many contend the reasoning behind final game tension. Some might respond with the difficulty that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's definite is this century was considerably tougher to predict.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 happened while she led the batting statistics, but this performance was preceded by six games in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've been watching me in training, it has been a frustrating experience because it appeared my form was missing at all," stated Healy.

"However when you enter the playing area, your competitive nature take over and you completely engage with the competition."

Healy's competitive nature has always been her great strength - and a priceless quality in taking over from legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, out to the emerging pace bowler in all three matches, but here that only provided Healy's inspiration.

One run resulted off Gaud's first delivery and from that point Healy was in motion.

"An opportunity to take the field and lock in a contest with her and merely enjoy the moment that way, somewhat inspired me," commented Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 pitches - her swiftest at a World Cup - and her century in 84 balls as she attacked short-pitched balls, hitting 21 fours and three sixes.

By the time she was out her side needed 66 more at one run per ball - an unconquered height now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Chasing 330 runs is new territory so I'm happy we have the belief to do that now," continued Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to repeat it but, if we do, we are confident we can do it."

That comment will be the last rival teams at this World Cup need to hear.

Over the past five days a belief they will win from any position has grown stronger - this success succeeding win against Pakistan by 107 runs despite being 76-7 at a certain moment.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before an encounter with longtime competitors England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final berth may probably be guaranteed.

It was in the semi-finals they exited last year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - an encounter Healy was absent due to damaged tissue in her foot as she led her country for the initial instance at a major tournament.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she wished she had played despite the injury.

But while she subsequently acknowledged those fitness problems have pushed back thoughts of retirement, this World Cup is expected to be her concluding event as leader in one-day cricket and she is yet to win a global event as leader.

Triumph in India would bring her to the top of her last major obstacle.
